Senior Artist

Neha Talwar individually practices a distinctive style of creating artworks from textures and layers of fabrics and textiles in which she uses an amalgamation of prehistoric dyes with indigenous art forms and Geographical Indications of India like Punjab’s Phulkari, Lucknow’s Chikankari, Bengal’s Nakshi Kantha, Bagru hand block printing technique in Rajasthan, and Pipli appliqué work from Odisha, India’s Khadi and other traditional styles. Her artworks portray a journey narrated by the textiles, a time trip of characters inhabiting the feel and medium of the fabric. Her quest is to highlight the possible concomitance between humans and the textiles, the convergence of the inanimate and the animate, the inorganic, and the organic, the known and the unknown. The fabrics in the art take human form to reflect human values, impressions of psychology, the abstraction of passion, expressions of poverty, etc. She provokes thought through art. Her recent lithium-powered paintings, solar + wind sculptures, and installations revolve around the importance of renewable energy and reducing the carbon footprint. The message in her art is to address socially relevant issues like gender equality, affordable and clean energy, good health, and climate action.
